Crown Reduction

Reducing canopy size stresses the tree because of the cuts required. Unlike a thinning cut, a drop-crotching cut does not cut back to a natural boundary, this means that decay can spread quickly inside cut branches, for this reason it is best not to perform crown reduction if at all possible.

Crown lifting

Crown lifting is carried out to increase the clearance between the ground level and the lower branches either to allow access below the tree, to clear sight lines, improve views or allow light to penetrate to the ground.

Deadwooding

Deadwooding should be done periodically to remove dead or diseased tree branches which may also be broken or weakly attached. This is especially important where public safety is an issue, especially public roads, parks, and gardens.

Tree stumps can be very difficult to remove. We remove any stump quickly and efficiently with specialized equipment.

Site Clearance & Wood Chipping

Where required we will chip, shred or haul away all timber, branches and hedges from your site leaving the area as we found it. Removal of any deadwood greater then 5cm without attempting to remove it from the end of branches or areas with green foliage as in conifers

Pollarding

Pollarding is a method of pruning that keeps trees and shrubs smaller than they would naturally grow. It is normally started once a tree or shrub reaches a certain height, and annual pollarding will restrict the plant to that height.

Formative Pruning

While many trees will naturally form their adult shape as they grow, others need a little assistance to create a clear trunk and a well-spaced canopy of branches. It is wise to keep an eye on young trees and carry out formative pruning as required.

I must use a superlative to describe a most wonderful experience! I had previously noticed Grasshopper Services working in a neighbourhood. It was apparent that the company did fantastic work. Unfortunately it was subsequently necessary for me to cut down a beloved Silver Birch tree as it was too big for my garden and it as blocking light for me and my neighbour next door. From what I had seen of their work Grasshopper Services was ‘the only show in town’. It did not disappoint! From the prompt arrival of the crew namely Noel and Saulus to their work ethic I knew had made the right decision. It was hassle free and the pride both men took In their work was evident from beginning to end. All I can say is ‘thanks a million for an absolutely amazing job! Can not believe how ultra efficient these guys are, they came in started immediately. Weeds were very bad as tall as myself but they cleared them, cut grass, pruned trees and plants, nothing was a hassle. These guys are super troopers, and the price was extremely reasonable. An excellent service. We engaged Grasshopper Services to prune a large fir tree and clip back a large hedge. This was carried out with great care and precision. All branches and cuttings were removed and they left the garden pristine afterwards! Highly recommend Grasshopper. Many thanks!

Incredible support and service. The team was able to come in and remove a bamboo tree that the previous owner had put in the property, they were super helpful and kind and they were super passionate and even gave us tips on how to take care of some of the plants we have in our garden from the previous owner. Absolutely incredible job by Grasshopper. As you can see from the photos, the back garden was completely overgrown and had turned into a jungle. It honestly hadn’t been properly tackled since around 2015, so this was a massive job. From start to finish, the correspondence from the office staff was amazing. Everything was well organized, from confirming the appointment time to sending text messages letting me know the team was on the way. That kind of communication makes a big difference. The lads who arrived did an unbelievable job. They worked so hard, cleared everything back, tidied the place up, and completely transformed the garden. The difference is night and day it honestly looks like a completely different space. I’m genuinely blown away by the result.
